In order to improve personal safety and to reduce grinding dust, we choose to move forward to the new EWM stationary closed, wet tungsten electrode grinders.
The patented, stationary PORTA wet grinder binds any potentially hazardous grinding dust in a water bath as soon as it is produced. This makes it the only unit on the market to meet the stringent requirements for work safety according to 89/391/EEC and 98/24/EEC (European Economic Community). The wet grinding process is also responsible for extending the service life of the diamond grinding disk significantly and for finishing the electrode tip with a surface equivalent to polishing. A special feature that ensures maximum stability for the unit: The machine body is milled from a solid aluminium block.
Thanks to automatic centring with the rapid-change safety collet chuck for electrodes with diameters of 0.8 to 4.8 millimetres, every electrode has a completely centric tip with high grinding quality. The grinding depth is set to the minimum required; this means that the user saves on electrode consumption as well. Any tip angle between 15 and 180 degrees can be infinitely adjusted and reproduced with precision. Even worn electrodes with weld metal deposits – normally only fit for the waste bucket – can be ground thanks to the ingenious clamping system. Even operators of automated orbital welding systems and users of special TIG torches for manual joining on hard-to-access components find a solution among the EWM range – users can even shape electrodes of just eight millimetres in length with absolute reliability.

We also changed to the new "Green" electrodes, with less impact on our planet.

As the tungsten inert gas (TIG) process is the most universal as well as the "cleanest" of all molten welding processes, this was a new step forward.
